• Incredible Images of Iceland Volcano from Just a Few Kilometers Away

  Astronomer Snaevarr Gudmundsson from Iceland was able to travel to within just a few kilometers from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, and shared his incredible close-up images with Universe Today. "I stayed near the volcano from about 16:00 hours to 22:00 hours on Saturday and watched its impressive eruption," Gudmundsson said in an email to me. "Amazing event, awesome explosions of 1200 °C hot magma reaching ice and water. I shot more than 550 images during these hours of continuous enjoyment. Sounds ridiculous but its ever changing appearance was never boring."

• Captivating Examples of Sleeveface Photography

  Sleeveface is an intriguing phenomenon making its rounds on the web. It has become particularly popular on social networking sites.

  The technique is pretty straightforward and consists of photographs of one more people obscuring or augmenting any part of their bodies with album sleeves, causing an illusion.

  In this post, we’ve compiled a few of the most fascinating examples of sleevefaces out there.

  They’re really fun to watch and give the viewer a very unique perspective on the subjects being photographed.

  مسلسل السوب أوبرا للعنف الجامعي ما زال مستمراً حتى هذه اللحظة.. وقد عادت بي الأحداث الأخيرة إلى الفترة التي كنت فيها طالباً جامعياً في الجامعة الأردنية قبل ثماني سنوات تقريباً. وأذكر حينها عندما كنت سنفوراً صغيراً أني توجّهت إلى عمادة شؤون الطلبة أطرح عليهم فكرة إصدار مجلة متخصصة بفنون العمارة. وكأني حينها صفعت المسؤول أو كأني شتمت أمّه حين بادر بالرفض وشرح لي سلسلة طويلة من الموافقات التي ليس لها أول من آخر مروراً بالجامعة وانتهاءاً بالمخابرات وظننت لوهلة أني سأتلقى إنذاراً لمجرد التفكير في ذلك. أذكر وقتها أن مجلس الطلبة أصبح يعيّن تعيناً، كما أذكر أنني كنت أمضي معظم أوقات الفراغ بين المحاضرات أشرب شبه نسكافيه وأمج السجائر أثناء معاينتنا لبنات الجامعة ونحن جالسون على الرصيف أو درج الكلية. أظن أن المهارة الوحيدة التي تعلمتها في الجامعة هي التدخين.

  طبعاً مازلت أذكر كل أفراد الهيئة التدريسية، ومازلت أذكر الدكتور الذي طردني ثلاث محاضرات متتالية لأني أهنت عظمته وتغيّبت عن أول محاضرة له بسبب حضوري لمحاضرة أخرى كان يلقيها معماري إيطالي مشهور جداً.

  مازلت أذكر كيف أني كنت انتظر اللحظة التي تنتهي فيها المحاضرات لأغادر فيها الجامعة بأسرع وقت وأذهب إلى عملي الجزيء لأني ببساطة كنت أرى أن عملي كان يعلمني أكثر من جامعتي.

  كنت أتذكر حديث زملائي الذي لا ينتهي عن العلامات وكيف أن العلامة قادرة على دفع طالب نحو الانتحار!! كنت أشفق دائماً على نفسي وعلى الطلبة لوقوعنا ضحية خمس وأربعين دقيقة مملة لا تسمن ولا تغني من جوع لمعلومات قديمة لم أكن أعرف ماللذي ستعود به علي. والأبلى هو أن المحاضر نفسه غير مقتنع ما يتحدث به ولايدري حتى لماذا هو واقف الآن أمام الطلاّب. كنت لا انتمي لتلك القاعات وكان شعوري دائما أنني أضيّع وقتي في الجامعة. كان دافعي الوحيد للنجاح هو أنني بدّي أخلص من هالهم.

  أنا متأكد أن هناك الكثير من الذكريات الأليمة التي يحملها كل شخص درس في جامعاتنا ولكنني لحد الآن مستغرب من القناعة المفرطة للجميع والرضا المطلق لهذا الوضع المأساوي. وأنا متأكد من أنه ستصلني تعليقات تشتمني وتتهمني بتشويه صورة وسمعت البلد.

  على العموم، قولوا ما تقولون، وافعلوا ما تفعلون.. فهذا لن ينفي وجود واقع تعليمي مزري عندنا.. وأننا إن لم نواجه الموضوع بكل حزم وشفافية سنجد أنفسنا في وضع أسوأ من أحداث السلط الأخيرة.

  لنفكر معاً كيف نعيد صياغة تجربة التعليم لدينا بما عندنا من إمكانيات ولنفتح عقولنا جميعاً لاىجاد الحلول العملية التي يمكن تطبيقها ولنأخذ زمام المبادرة بدلاً من انتظار الحل من الحكومة أو USAID.

  من خلال الانترنت، الإعلام، الأعمال والشركات، العائلات، الجمعيات وغيرها.. لنركز الجهود نحو هدف واحد. وهو ايجاد أفضل بيئة تعليمية لنا ولأبنائنا يمكن الوصول إليها على كل المستويات.
